Racing de Santander
Form & Tactical Outlook: Promoted back to La Liga for the 2026-27 season as Segunda Division champions, Racing de Santander sit 13th in the table with 11 points from their opening 10 matches (W3 D2 L5). Jose Alberto Lopez's men are in good form having won their last two fixtures, following up a 2-1 league victory over Espanyol last weekend with a 2-0 win over Ribadesella CF in the Copa del Rey on Thursday. In past head-to-head encounters, Racing lost 4-0 to Real Madrid when they last met in February 2012, but their last meeting at El Sardinero ended 0-0 in September 2011. The hosts are aiming to beat Real Madrid for the first time since a 2-1 home victory in April 2007.
Team News: Highly-rated 19-year-old left-back Jorge Salinas is suspended after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season against Espanyol, while Simon Eriksson remains sidelined with a shoulder injury; the hosts are otherwise in strong shape. 21-year-old forward Yassir Zabiri, who has scored eight goals in 10 league matches this term, will continue in the attacking third.
Real Madrid
Form & Tactical Outlook: Real Madrid travel to El Sardinero on Sunday afternoon aiming to extend their winning streak across all competitions to six matches. Jose Mourinho's side secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in El Clasico last weekend courtesy of Kylian Mbappe's late second goal, keeping Los Blancos third in the table on 24 points (W8 L2)—one point behind Atletico Madrid and three adrift of leaders Barcelona. Since losing the Madrid derby to Atletico before the international break, Real Madrid have posted five straight wins in all competitions. Next week, they face AEK Athens in the Champions League before visiting Valencia ahead of the next international window. Real Madrid have won nine of their last 10 encounters with Racing.
Team News: Rodrygo (knee), Ferland Mendy (hip), Raul Asencio (leg), and the suspended Vinicius Junior remain unavailable. However, Federico Valverde (hamstring) and Thibaut Courtois (illness) are expected to recover in time to feature. Denzel Dumfries could start at right-back, potentially shifting Valverde into central midfield. In the final third, Jude Bellingham is set to feature behind Mbappe, with Arda Guler and Yan Diomande operating on the flanks.
