Manchester United
Form & Tactical Outlook:
Manchester United fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Chelsea in their last Premier League fixture. Amad Diallo failed to convert two first-half chances before Morgan Rogers scored an individual goal in the second half, followed by Lisandro Martinez receiving two yellow cards within 90 seconds to concede a penalty, which Cole Palmer converted from the spot. The Red Devils are winless in nine consecutive matches across all competitions, having lost their last three and four of their previous five fixtures. In the Premier League table, United sit in 17th place, outside the relegation zone only on goal difference. In the Champions League, their record stands at one win and two defeats from three games.
Team News:
Despite serving a domestic suspension, Lisandro Martinez is expected to partner Harry Maguire in central defense on Tuesday night, flanked by full-backs Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot. Carrick could deploy Youri Tielemans in an advanced central position and shift Bruno Fernandes out wide, with Andrey Santos and Kobbie Mainoo potentially partnering in the midfield base. Mason Mount would likely operate as the third attacking midfielder behind Bryan Mbeumo, leaving Matheus Cunha on the bench. Patrick Dorgu, Luke Shaw, and Benjamin Sesko remain out, while Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo will be assessed.
Roma
Form & Tactical Outlook:
Gian Piero Gasperini's Roma enter the clash on a five-match unbeaten run across all competitions (four wins, one draw), having scored three or more goals in four of those five matches. Defensively, the Italian side have conceded in each of their last three games: shipping three goals against Napoli, two in a 4-2 win over Cagliari, and two in Saturday's 5-2 victory over Udinese. In the Champions League, the Giallorossi have recorded one win, one draw, and one defeat from their opening three fixtures. Roma have suffered heavy away defeats to United in past meetings (including 7-1 in 2007 and 6-2 in 2021) and are aiming to secure their first victory at Old Trafford.
Team News:
Gasperini reported no fresh injury concerns following Saturday's 5-2 win over Udinese, but Muhammed Bah, Paulo Dybala, Manu Kone, Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Mile Svilar remain sidelined for this midweek tie. Forward Donyell Malen sits second in the Capocannoniere race with eight goals (one behind Gustavo Varela), has scored three goals in the Champions League, and has registered two assists, level with Matias Soule.
